  8. This following article is based on the
  9. WoC  assembly  in Pasadena, California
  10. earlier this fall.  At this exhibition
  11. Commodore  introduced  the CD³² to the
  12. American   public,   with   a  massive
  13. success.   It  is  interesting that C=
  14. concentrates  primarily to Europe; the
  15. launch  of the CD³² is half year ahead
  16. here  of  the  American  start.

  18. James  Dionne, president of CBM stated
  19. that  the A4000 and A1200 series are a
  20. huge  success  all over the world.  He
  21. also hopes that the CD machine will be
  22. the  new  C-64.   Personally  I  would
  23. doubt   it  because  I've  heard  that
  24. although  it is cheaper an better than
  25. Sega's  CD, but just a minor amount of
  26. people  are  willing  to  buy  one.  I
  27. guess  this  is  due  to  the  lack of
  28. advertisements  and  commercials  from
  29. Commodore.     Dionne   informed   the
  30. journalists    that    C=    is   only
  31. concentrating  on  the  Amiga  series,
  32. they  stop producing PC clones.  Well,
  33. I  think all of you have all the infos
  34. about  this  wonderful  console,  so I
  35. won't detail the advantages.

  37. After  the  introduction  of the CD³²,
  38. came   some   informations  about  the
  39. technical  developments at C=.  Due to
  40. the  economical  problems at the firm,
  41. they stopped the development of things
  42. like:

  52. - AA Display Enhancer
  53. - Network software
  54. - DSP card
  55. - A4091 SCSI2 controller
  56. - Multi-port card

  59. These  are finished developments, only
  60. needed  to  be produced, but Commodore
  61. gave  the  full documentation of these
  62. products   to  different  Amiga  based
  63. development firms FOR FREE!

  65. Also at WoC, the first AAA chipset got
  66. tested.   It  had various problems yet
  67. of  course,  but  it  was able to show
  68. 24-Bit   pictures.   Louis  Eggebrecht
  69. said  that  it  needs  ca.4  months of
  70. further   development,  so  the  first
  71. versions  will be out at the beginning
  72. of  '94.   Computers  with AAA will be
  73. out in the middle of 1994.

  75. The  Amiga  OS3.1  is  finished.   New
  76. features are:

  78. - new CD³² routines
  79. - CD-ROM filesystem
  80. - Postscript driver
  81. - all 3.0 bugs fixed
  82. - and some more advantages

  84. Also  this  year a double speed CD-ROM
  85. drive   will   be  available  for  the
  86. A4000's and 1200's.  This CD-ROM makes
  87. an 1200 fully compatible with a CD³²!

  89. Some other news from C=:
  90. - A4000T  will  be  out  at the end of
  91.   fall.
  92. - The MPEG modul will be available for
  93.   the CD³² at the end of November.
  94. - Contrary  to the  rumours, the A1400
  95.   will  possibly  never see  the light
  96.   of day...
